Yitan Akca

Fashion Designer / London, UK
-

Biography

My name is Yitan Akca, and I am a multidisciplinary womenswear fashion design student at Central Saint Martins in London.

Originally from the Netherlands, I moved to London to pursue my studies and develop my creative practice. I am passionate about fashion and the creative process behind developing a garment, with a particular interest in haute couture, pattern making and draping. My work explores the relationship between the body, textiles, form and sculpture, often combining traditional fashion techniques with 3D printing and experimental materials.

I am interested in moving away from the culture of mass production and exploring more ethical and considered ways of creating and making. I enjoy experimenting with different processes and materials to develop garments that can exist between fashion and sculpture. I have also exhibited my work in Hirado and Yokohama, Japan, giving me the opportunity to present my practice in different cultural contexts.

Creative statement

”I want to create garments that sit between fashion and sculpture, where craftsmanship, experimentation and the process of making are as important as the final piece.”
